Flow handles a command on the control that has focus. It does not handle the R key.

Commands Flow handles

In the automation builder, focus a tab that can be closed. Delete or Backspace closes that tab. Left arrow, Right arrow, Home, and End move between those tabs. In Reply to requester, Enter sends the reply when the reply can be sent. Shift-Enter does not send it. Enter does not send while an input method is composing, or for a brief moment after composition ends. The field Ask or type /help for slash commands opens Conversation slash commands when all of these are true:
  • The text, after removing leading spaces, starts with /.
  • No command candidate is selected.
  • No slash command is active, the active command is unavailable, or that command has a candidate list.
While that list has items, the field handles these keys: Enter sends the message when that list has no items. Shift-Enter does not send it. The same input-method exception applies.

Commands the browser keeps

Chrome and Safari publish these shortcuts. Flow does not handle them. See Chrome keyboard shortcuts and Keyboard shortcuts and gestures in Safari.

Change a Safari menu shortcut

macOS can assign a shortcut to a menu command in Safari. The change stays in Safari on that Mac. Some apps do not allow a custom shortcut. A new shortcut does not work while another command already uses those keys. Change one of the shortcuts first. Type the menu title exactly as it appears in Safari, in your Mac’s language. For a command inside another menu, type the path with ->.
1

Open System Settings.

From the Apple menu, open System Settings.
2

Open Keyboard Shortcuts.

Select Keyboard, then Keyboard Shortcuts.
3

Open App Shortcuts.

Select App Shortcuts.
4

Choose Safari.

Select Add. For Application, choose Safari.
5

Enter the menu title.

In Menu Title, enter the command exactly as it appears in the menu.
6

Set the shortcut.

Select Keyboard Shortcut, press the keys you want, then select Done.
If the shortcut does nothing, the menu title does not match, or another command already uses those keys. Apple describes this in Create keyboard shortcuts for apps. Shift-Command-R already opens Reader. To use those keys for another Safari command, first assign the Reader command to different keys. Copy its name from Safari’s menu. Apple’s shortcut list calls that action Open Reader.
