# Automations in Flow

> Where to build, run, and monitor automations.

An automation is a repeatable set of steps that handles service work. It can collect input, request approval, use a connected app, and return a result.

This topic maps where each part of that work happens, so you can go straight to the right surface instead of searching for it.

## Where automation work lives

| Surface | Use it for |
| - | - |
| **Automations** | Find automations, open the builder, and manage publication |
| **Integrations** | Connect provider accounts for automation actions |
| **Automations → Triggers** | Check schedules and other automatic triggers |
| **Runs** (More icon at the end of an automation row) | Review run history for one automation |
| **Automations → Monitoring** | Investigate active runs, failures, and blockers |
| **Analytics → Dashboard** | Compare aggregate request handling and production-run success |

Your roles determine which automations, runs, and connections you can use. See [Permissions](/setup/permissions).
