# Notifications

> Review notifications and choose how Flow delivers them.

When your role exposes notifications, select the bell in the sidebar. Use **All** or **Unread**,
then open, dismiss, or change the read state of an item.

Opening or dismissing a notification does not change the related request, approval, or assignment.

Not every requester sees the notification center or personal preferences. When it is unavailable,
follow the Flow, Slack, Microsoft Teams, or email thread where the request started.

## Change preferences

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the notification center." />

  <Step title="Open preferences.">
    Select **Notification preferences**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open a category." />

  <Step title="Turn a type on or off." />

  <Step title="Choose delivery channels.">
    When it is on, choose its available delivery channels.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Depending on the notification type, Flow can offer the in-app feed, a browser toast, email,
or your connected Slack or Microsoft Teams channel. If no chat provider is connected, chat
delivery is unavailable. Follow the setup guidance when personal chat delivery is not ready.
Some notification types cannot be changed from personal preferences.

Custom channel choices stay tied to the provider you selected. Connecting another chat provider
does not opt you into that channel. Choose the new channel if you want to receive notifications there.

Your preferences change delivery to you. They do not change who can access the underlying Flow
record.
